Disney Bought Out Star Wars

Not so bad from where I'm sitting. I like Marvel movies a lot better than SW and Disney hasn't seemed to screw those up too bad yet.

I think they only been doing comics, not movies.

They bought Marvel Entertainment: "Iger said the deal will allow Disney to sell Marvel's vast array of characters and properties across different media platforms and in many more markets."

But now that I think about it, I don't think that they've released a new movie directly under the Disney banner -- I think all of the Avenger films and associated heroes are under an already-made contract. Still though, I don't see them completely kiddy-babying a whole franchise.

If the news is true, the new trilogy is supposed to take place 20 years after the events of A New Hope.
Which means...a lot of the major players from the New Republic Era that were only gleamed at in the video game side-stories will most likely wind up with more major roles.
Wonder if it means we'll be expecting to see Kyle Katarn.

If Disney fucks it up the Star Wars fanbase will rip them to shreds and leave the companies profit margin in ruins by boycotting the company and writing violent emails and insulting propaganda.
That said, I'm hopeful because seeing the EU in movies would me no more of this bullshit debate about EU vs movies.

Naw they could fuck Starwars all day. They have the rights to Marvel across all mediums, and Pixar puts out animated oscars like candy. Disney is an international media titan, people buying or watching things will just accidentally give them money. Add to that their not entirely unsuccessful video game ventures, and all that junk aimed at the youngins'. SW profits and the 4bil they purchased it for is ass wiping money.

Also this purchase was just for the live action films and presumably the associated merchandise, not the entire brand name. So Georgie and co. could likely still make cartoons, comics, graphic novels or video games and what not.

No if I understood on the news they bought all of Lucas Entertainment. Could be wrong though.

Yeah they did, I thought LucasFilms was a seperate entity than LucasArts but it's the parent company.

But still, drop in the bucket for Disney. They can do whatever they want with the series. Marvel and the already established franchises keep them swinging no matter what they do

It's gonna be either of two extremes.

Either they do wonderfully amazing, causing audiences around the world to die of extreme, orgasmic pleasure

Or they do horridly, so much so that people watching it will claw out their eyes and then riot against lucas arts and disney. Bringing the monster corperation to it's knee's from an blood-lusted fandom

This is what I think will happen.

I have my suspicions.

But the director they chose seems like he knows what he's doing and that he'll do good. (director of the new star trek movie)

They should do fine, assuming they stick to a plot from one of the novels and don't try and touch anything else.
